Week #8 10/25/01 at Home
Freshmen Dragons fall to Bartlett
22 - 16

The Collierville Dagons Freshman team hoped to end their season at home with a win Thursday night. Until 2 minutes left in the game it looked like they would do just that.

Collierville took the opening kick off and marched the length of the field. Quarterback Brian Hall's 26 yard run started the Dragons march to the goal line. Hall's pass to Carmichael Thomas gave the Dragons a first and goal at the 3 yard line. Jordan Pedron scored the touchdown on a one yard run. Nathan Murphy's kick was good.

Bartlett answered with a 64 yard touchdown pass and the extra point was good for a 7-7 tie after one quarter. Brock Merryman boomed a punt 43 yards that rolled dead at the one yard line to pin the panthers deep in their own territory. Andrew White tackled the Bartlett tailback in the endzone for a safety to give the Dragons the lead at 9-7.

With 7:42 left before halftime the Dragons were marching again. Carmichael Thomas took a reverse 14 yards behind the blocking of Matt Fields and Ben Huff. Brian Hall then scored from nine yards out. Murphy's kick was good for a 16-7 lead. Alex Newton sacked the Panthers quarterback for a big loss to end the half.

Bartlett moved the ball to open the second half. Despite big defensive plays by Andrew White and James Lindow the Panthers were able to score to cut the Dragon lead to 16-14.

Kendrick Watkins came out running hard for the Dragons from the tailback position. The Dragons were stopped and a Brock Merryman punt rolled dead at the 38 yard line. Bartlett broke loose on a 60 yard touchdown run to take the lead with 2:10 remaining in the game.
