The Collierville Dragons opened their 2002 High School football season at home with a hard fought victory over a determined Central High Warrior squad.

In front of a large home field crowd that began tailgating at 5:00 PM, the Dragons overcame the heat and humidity to score first and last to seal the 8 point victory.

The Dragons started the scoring in the first quarter at the 10:32 mark when Junior HB Taylor Brashear broke for a 42 yard touchdown run followed by a C.J. Passmore extra point. Brashear broke many tackles on the night and rushed for 155 yards on 16 carries for the game, many of the yards coming after he was seemingly stopped for little or no gain.

Central responded to tie with 5:15 left in the quarter on a 7 yard run touchdown run followed by the extra point. Passmore connected on a 30 yard field goal with 1:10 left in the first after a stalled drive for a 10 - 7 lead.

The only scoring in the second quarter occurred with 9:13 left in the half. Senior quarterback Josh Smith connected on a long touchdown pass to sophomore WR Brain Hall, only to be called back by a holding penalty. Pinned deep in their end of the field, the Dragons attempted to punt on 2nd and 20, but the snap was fumbled out of the end zone for a safety. The first half ended with a 10 - 9 Dragon lead.

The third quarter saw the heat and humidity begin to take its toll as many players on both sides began to suffer from cramps. The Dragon defense held the Warriors scoreless in the second half. The defense was led by Hall's 14 tackles and senior LB Jake Storz's 12.

Senior LB Robbie Seahorn added 9 tackles with senior DE Kent DeVinney and junior DE Todd Madison each having quarterback sacks. Brain Hall also stepped up defensively with an interception and fumble recovery.

The Dragons scored the final points of the game on a 6 yard run by Hall, with Passmore's extra point for the final margin.

The Dragon had 302 total yards offensively while allowing just 179 yards to the Central Warriors.

The Dragons travel to Kirby this Friday for an early region showdown.
