The Varsity Dragons hosted the Wolverines from Overton Friday and celebrated Homecoming with a resounding victory. The unusually sparse Homecoming crowd, braved the mist and rain, but was not disappointed as the Dragons were victorious.

Sophomore Brian Hall took the opening kick-off 82 yards to score the first of his 3 touchdowns on the night. Sr. C.J. Passmore's extra point made the score 7 - 0 at the 11:49 mark in the first quarter.

Overton started their first drive on their own 20, but fumbled on the third play of the drive, recovered by Soph. Scott Eller on the 21. However, the Dragons were not able to take advantage as they were stopped on 3 plays and Passmore's 30 yd field goal attempt sailed wide left.

Overton took over at the 20 and made a first down to the 31. On the next play the Overton QB, under pressure from Sr. DE Kent DeVinney, floated a pass downfield and was picked off by Sr.LB Jake Storz at the 30. The Dragon offense stalled again, but with 3:10 left in the 1st Qtr, Passmore nailed the 32 yd FG for a 10 - 0 lead.

The Dragon defense held Overton again on 3 plays highlighted by Sr. Rogers Thweat tackle in the backfield for a 6 yd loss. The Dragons started their next possession on the 41, but the drive was short lived as Hall's HB pass was intercepted at the 2 yard line. Backed against their own goal line, the Wolverines were forced to punt after a sack by Sr. LB Robbie Seahorn (7 tackles) with Thweat returning to the 15 yard line to start the 2nd Qtr. The Dragons drove the 15 yds, capped by a 4 yd run from Jr. FB Taylor Brashear and lead 17 - 0 after Passmore's extra point. Passmore was 4 for 4 on PAT's for the game.

The next Overton possession saw a sustained drive from the Wolverines ending in a 42 yd TD run at the 6:42 mark trimming the lead to 17 - 7.

The Dragons then drove to the Overton 25, but were stopped on their 4th down attempt. Overton drove to their 40 when Thweat intercepted the 3rd down pass attempt and returned it to the 34. The Dragons ran to the 18 When Sr. QB Josh Smith (5/10/75yds) connected with Thweat (2/39yds) for the score with :56 left increasing the lead to 24 - 7. Sr. Matt Epperson recovered another Overton fumble on their next possession as the Dragons took a 17 point lead at the half.

Overton started the 2nd half with good field position at their 40 and mounted a 5 play drive ending with a 23 yd pass completion for the TD. The extra point attempt was blocked by Thweat leaving the score at 24 - 13.

The Dragon started on their 30 and drove to the 21 with runs by Brashear (16/85 yds), Hall (13/116 yds), and a pass completion to Jr. WR Jon Scruggs (1/33 yds) to set up Passmore's 32 yd FG stretching the lead to 27- 13. Overton, undaunted, returned the ensuing kick-off to the Dragon 12 yd line and scored on the next play. Their 2 pt conversion attempt was stuffed by DeVinney leaving the score 27 - 19.

The Wolverine defense stopped the Dragons forcing a Seahorn punt to the Overton 32 yard line. Overton then scored on their third play on a 45 yard reverse to end the 3rd Qtr. Their 2 point conversion attempt was stuffed again, this time by Storz who led the Dragons defense with 10 tackles on the night.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Dragons. After a bad snap on an Overton 4th down punt attempt, the Dragon's Hall ran left for the 20 yd TD extending the lead to 34 - 25 after the PAT.

Overton's next possession stalled on their 48 after a failed 4th down attempt. Hall then scored his third TD on the night with a 45 yd romp making the final score 41 - 25.

The Dragons will host White Station this week at Herman Osteen Field with a victory needed to seal a spot in the playoffs.
