The Freshman Dragons opened up the season Thursday by thrashing the visiting Munford Cougars 39-14. The Dragons fought their way to a 12-6 halftime lead and overpowered the Cougars scoring four second half touchdowns.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Dragons drove 75 yds. as QB Bubba Mize ran in from one yard out for the first score. The extra point attempt failed. The drive was highlighted by several long runs by TB Jason Goins.

The Dragons took a 12-0 lead after Munford gambled on a fourth and four from their own twenty-nine yard line. The defense stopped the Cougars giving the offense the ball back on the Cougar 32 yard line. Four plays later, TB Zack Palmer scored his first of four touchdowns, taking it in from four yards out. But, with eight seconds left before half, Munford got on the scoreboard on a 22 yard TD pass to close the first half scoring.

CHS opened the second half driving the ball 53 yards capped off by a ninteen yard shovel pass from Mize to Palmer for an 18-6 lead. Other second half scores came on an eleven yard run by Brett Rogers, a 70 yard kickoff return by Palmer, and an eight yard run by Palmer. The defense was lead by Harrison Bizzell, Matt Clark, and Laine Halfacre who each tackled Cougar ball carriers for a loss. Also coming up big for the Dragons was Malcolm Todd, who picked up an interception.

The Freshman travel to Cordova to play the Wolves next Thursday at 6:30. See ya there! !
