It wasn’t
very pretty unless you were a Germantown fan. If you were
pulling for the Red Devils on Senior Night, the game was
a masterpiece as Germantown manhandled the Dragons 49
– 14.
The night started
promising for the Dragons as they won the toss and elected
to receive. After a booming kick-off that sailed out of
the end zone, the Dragons started at their own 20. On
the first snap, Jr. QB Brian Hall ran around the right
side for 67 yards inside the Germantown 20. Hall would
later score from 1 yard out and with Brett Caldwell’s
extra point the Dragons would take a 7-0 lead. Unfortunately,
the Dragons next score would come after the game was already
decided.

Germantown
started their opening drive on their own 20 as Caldwell’s
kick sailed out of the end zone. The Red Devils methodically
ran their wishbone offense to perfection marching between
the tackles for the score to tie at 7-7. The Dragon offense
would not get on track the rest of the game against the
Germantown starting defense and could only manage 3 first
downs the balance of the first half. The Red Devils were
unstoppable as they amassed 276 yards rushing in the first
half alone. If Germantown’s rushing attack wasn’t
enough, they were also perfect through the air using a
unique concept of throwing to the tight end twice for
26 yards. The Red Devils took a 42-7 halftime lead.

Taylor Brashear dives for extra yards |
The Dragon
would start the second half with an on-side kick attempt.
What first appeared as perfect execution with the Dragons
gaining possession, turned out to be a controversial call
by the officials who determined the Dragons had touched
the ball before traveling the mandatory 10 yards. Germantown
took advantage of the good field position and drove for
their final touchdown to take an overwhelming 49-7 lead.

Hall would
lead the Collierville rushing attack with 76 yards followed
by Sr. Brian Nevill with 56 yards and Sr. Taylor Brashear
with 54 yards. Hall was also 6-13 passing with 5 completions
to wide receivers Jon Scruggs and Jonathon Abel and 1
to RB Brashear.
The Dragons
must now re-group and finish the regular season strong
next Friday at Osteen Field where they host the Tigers
from Whitehaven.
