QB
Brian Hall can do it all!! He lead the team in rushing
again for the 3rd straight week, ran for 1 TD, and
threw 2 TD strikes |
The Dragon’s
rolled into Crump Stadium on a very pleasant Friday night
for this early schedule Region 8 – 5A game. The first
possession was stopped after several first downs. Hamilton
took over deep in there own territory and was able to march
downfield and ran in from the 7 yard line to take an early
7 - 0 lead .
With the visiting
team in a hole the Dragon’s had to get to work.
Near the end of the first quarter, quarterback Brian
Hall found tight end Todd
Madison all alone in the end zone for the
13 yard strike. Madison went on to have another great
night by adding a blocked XP and broke up a 4th down pass
play late in the 2nd quarter. Kicker Brett Caldwell converted
the extra point and the score was tied 7 to 7. Collierville
was poised to explode at the start of the quarter. Hamilton
was forced to punt on 4th down. Tyler McMillon broke through
the line and made a clean block of the Hamilton punt,
giving the Dragons a big break deep in Hamilton territory.
RB Brian Nevill
added a touchdown from 1 yard out and with the converted
point the Dragons lead 14 to 7. Brian had 7 carries of
34 yards on the evening.

The Wildcats
did not take long to answer the Dragon score. They made
a very long pass play work down the right sideline. Derek
Riley was there from across the field to save the touchdown.
After several attempts Hamilton was able to punch the
ball in for a score. The conversion attempt was partially
blocked, and the score stood with the Dragons leading
uncomfortably 14 to13.
On the next
Dragon series it was QB Brian Hall broke into open field
for a 24 yard gain. Hall lead the team in rushing with
8 carries for 77 yards behind great blocking from C Brad
Pace, OT Scott
Eller & G Stanley Wilson. The extra point
left the score at 21 to 13.
After a quick
turnover the Dragons got the ball deep in Hamilton territory.
It was Jordon Pedron on a 11 yard TD run behind the blocking
of OT Nash Jackson, & G Andrew White. The conversion
was again good and the Dragons increased the lead 28 to
13.

yr. starter Brad Pace anchors the big Dragon line |
After a short
punt that ended the next Hamilton possession, it looked
like the Dragons would finally have to punt the ball away.
However an alert Brian Hall found Jordan Pedron all alone
for the 40 yard completion and the first down. The crowd
was absolutely stunned by the play and a large firework
display that exploded in the end zone at the start of
the play. The events were certainly not connected but
very unusual for certain. The Dragon offense nearly ran
out of time right before the half. On the last play Brett
Caldwell was able to convert a 20 yard field goal to make
the score 31 to 13.

Jackson blocks his man out of the play |
The second
half was slow contest with penalties marring play for
both teams. Additionally, Collierville grinded it out
behind the hard running of Taylor
Brashear. On several runs Brashear literally
drug the defenders down field for extra yards. The big
play of the second half for the Dragons was a spectacular
throw and catch in the corner of the end zone from Brian
Hall to Jon Scruggs. The play netted 20 yards and the
Dragons led 38 to 13.
This ended
play for most of the Dragon starters with reserves finishing
out the game. Hamilton tallied a score late to bring the
final score to Collierville 38 Hamilton 21. Middle linebacker
Dustin
Brasher lead the defense again this week
with 7 tackles. On one of the plays Brasher made a come-from-behind
tackle which thwarted a Wildcat TD in the 3rd quarter.
Cody McMeans followed with 5 tackles, Taylor Brashear
with 4 tackles and 7 others with 3 tackles each.
Collierville
will return home this Friday in action against cross town
rival Cordova at 7:30 pm. The junior varsity sees action
Monday at Germantown at 6:30 pm.
