Houston was outmatched as Scott Eller demonstrates
|
The Dragons traveled
the short distance to region rival Houston High School last
Friday and took advantage of several opportunities to scorch
the Mustangs 37 – 7.
Coach Cox took advantage of the bye week preceding this
game to rest and heal, but also to add a new wrinkle to
the high-powered Dragon ground attack. The Dragons revealed
a “no huddle” offense that kept the Mustangs
off balance all night.

The scorching
began on the Dragons second possession of the game when

his 2 touchdowns on the night. The snap was fumbled on
the extra point attempt, making the Dragon lead 6-0.
The next Houston
possession would result in a turnover. The Mustangs would
turn the ball over 3 times on the night with 2 fumbles
and an interception and the Dragons capitalized on every
one. After the first Houston turnover, Sr. HB Brian Nevill
broke for a 33 yd touchdown run with Hall hitting So.
HB Noel Moyes for the 2 point conversion for a 14-0 lead.

all night. The Mustangs were held deep in the own end
of the field when the fourth down snap sailed over the
punters head and out of the end zone for a safety. The
Dragon’s would score on their next possession when
Hall threw into double coverage to Sr. WR Jon Scruggs
for the 23 yd TD. After Bret Caldwell’s extra point,
the Dragons lead was 23-0 with 8:43 remaining in the half
and would take that lead into halftime.
