Collierville was matched up with non-conference Bolton
in an official scrimmage that Collierville clearly won.
Collierville
won the toss and began on offense. In the opening
possession Collierville came up short and was forced
to punt after 6 plays. Bolton however was also forced
to punt in there turn. However Dragon Senior Derek
Riley beat the right defensive end and squarely blocked
the Bolton punt. It was eventually recovered on the
Bolton 4 yard line.
Senior
Brian
Nevill on the first play followed the left
side of the Dragon line for a touchdown. The extra point
was wide as the Dragons lead 6 to 0.
Bolton
was able to move the ball on their next possession deep
into Dragon territory. Bolton fumbled giving Dragons possession
on their own 4 yard line. Several keys runs by Junior
QB Brian
Hall pulled the Dragons out of the hole near

midfield. Hall was able to spot senior Jon Scruggs
on a long pass to set up a Dragon first down inside
the 5 yard line. The results nearly copied the last
possession when Nevill again followed the line for
the short score. This time the Dragons went for two
points, Scruggs made the play work around the right
side and the Dragons lead 14 to 0.Bolton took advantage
of the Dragon celebration and some mental mistakes
on their very next play with a 65 yard run to narrow
the score to 14 to 6.
A
determined Dragon offense got the score back fairly
quickly. A solid run by Hall set up a first down near
midfield. Senior Clarence Featherstone beat the right
side of the Bolton defense for an apparent touchdown.
However an alert official spotted the out of bounds
and the play netted only 20 yards. Senior running
workhorse Taylor
Brashear took some punishment running the ball
down inside the 15 yard line. This time it was Hall
hooking up with Senior TE Todd Madison for the 15
yard pass and catch. This time the kick was good and
the Dragons lead 21 to 6.
Bolton
was able to put together a nice drive that made the
final score 21 to 12. The team and the fans celebrated
the opening event looking forward to a key cross State
match up to be played at unfamiliar Gallatin on August
22nd.
