Game Captains #53 Brad Pace, #22 Brian Nevill, #74
David Adams, & #51 Dustin Brasher
|
The game with Kirby was really two games in one evening
separated by a half time break. The first half was a track
meet with both teams offenses playing at full tilt that
ended with a half time score of 38 to 24 with the Dragons
firmly in the lead. The Dragons first half success was
from nearly 300 yards running the ball (407 yards in 48
attempts for the evening). Kirby’s success was from
200 passing yards from a very efficient passing attack.
The second half was all Collierville as the offense mixed
passing with the running game. Kirby however was throttled
by a Dragon defense that shifted from a pass prevent to
solid pressure on the quarterback and shut out the Cougars
in the second half of play.

The Dragons
took very little time establishing the running game as
the offensive line dominated Kirby. The line was anchored
by C. Brad
Pace, with David
Adams, Nash Jackson, and Scott
Eller at the tackles. The guards were Stanley
Wilson and Andrew White. The Dragons scored first on a
8 yard run by senior running back Taylor
Brashear. Taylor led the Dragon attack as
he finished with 201 yards on 16 carries and 3 touchdowns.
The kick by Caldwell was good and the Dragons lead 7 to
0. The Cougars were pinned on their first possession deep
into their own territory and could not move the ball.
This time it was senior Brian
Nevill ( Brian had 9 carries for 106 yards)
that scored from 5 yards out, Caldwell’s kick was
again good and the lead grew to 14 to 0.

The cougars
answered on their next possession with a score of their
own to close to 22 to 16. This time it was the Dragon’s
who answered quickly as Brian Nevill took the Kick off
and zigged and zagged through the field for a 86 yard
touchdown run that covered 120 yards. Senior Jonathon
Scruggs ran the two point play in and the score soared
to 30 to 16. Not to be out done Kirby answered in less
than two minutes as they closed the score to 30 to 24.
The Dragons
were not finished for the half as Taylor Brashear clipped
off a 51 yard touchdown run and when Brian
Hall filled in with another two point conversion
it was Collierville 38 Kirby 24. This time it was Kirby
who ran out of time as there drive ended deep in Dragon
territory with no time remaining. The Dragons had scored
38 points with their 5 possessions in the first half.
The second
half began with a great special teams play by Kicker Brett
Caldwell with Cody McMeans recovering the kickoff. This
time it was a pass from Junior Brian Hall to Jonathon
Scruggs good for 17 yards for the score. Hall again added
a two point conversion and the score moved to 46 to 24.
Quarterback Hall finished the evening with a perfect 4
for 4 passing for 90 yards and 3 touchdowns while rushing
for two conversions.
The Dragon
defense pressured the Kirby quarterback and Kirby was
forced to punt. The Dragons continued the offensive attack
with Hall finding junior Jonathon Abel who made a circus
over the shoulder grab in the corner of the end zone.
Caldwell added the extra point and the Dragons now lead
53 to 24. The final score came on a 3rd down and long
with Hall finding Abel again for an easy 18 yard pass
and catch. The Caldwell kick completed the game scoring
which held as the final score with the Dragons winning
60 to 24.
The defense
was lead again this week with Dustin
Brasher recording 10 tackles, followed by
Taylor Brashear with 6, Cody McMeans and Derek Riley with
5 each and Stanley Wilson with 3 tackles. There were ten
different Dragons that recorded two tackles each. A. J
