Sr. Derek Riley blocks the punt
|
The Dragons quickly
recovered from a down game last week and took out some frustration
on the visiting Wolverine’s. The starting offense
for Collierville would not be stopped on this night and
seeming scored on each play that they had the ball in the
first half.
The starting Dragon backfield trio ended the evening
early in the third quarter with 286 yards rushing on only
19 attempts. The balanced running attack was led by junior
Brian
Hall with 126 yards followed closely by seniors
Taylor
Brashear with 82 yards and Brian
Nevill with 78 yards. Amazingly each back
scored two running touchdowns a piece.

Brian Hall
was also able to hook up with senior Jon Scruggs for two
completions good for 60 yards, one good for a long touchdown
down the right side. Hall later hooked up with senior
Todd
Madison on a key 3rd down play for 21 yards.
Most of the
third quarter was played by reserves, which allowed Coach
Cox to protect starters who needed to stay healthy for
league play. The reserves played extremely well highlighted
by a strong throw from Jason Smith to wide receiver Taylor
Walker for a 44 yard score down the right sideline.

The Dragon
defense had a great night as well and allowed just two
big plays by the talented running back from Overton. The
defensive team seemed to be on the field most of the night
as the offense was so proficient. Linebacker Dustin
Brasher led the team again in tackles with
11, followed by Mike Cifaldi with 8 tackles, Stanley Wilson
with 5 and many others with 4 including; D Riley, Cody
McMeans, and Andrew White.

Defensive end
Todd Madison recorded a monster sack and kept the pressure
up on the Wolverine quarterback the entire night. Jon
Scruggs added a interception and Derek Riley was credited
with the block of a punt.
This Friday,
October 4th the Dragon’s receive get a well needed
week off as they see a scheduled bye in the schedule.
In their next game on October 11th they visit neighborhood
rival Houston High School.
