It was a slow start for the
Dragon’s in there second
home game at Osteen Field. The
Warriors took possession on
there own 20 yard line where
Jarvis Braxton of Central broke
the first play for a big gain
over the left side. The Dragons
would see Jarvis another 25
times on the night. The drive
was killed inside the 10 yard
line from solid play from the
defense.
The Dragon offense with little
room to work was stalled at
the 15 yard line and was forced
to punt. Senior Brock
Merryman the Dragon
punter sailed a kick past the
Warrior return man for a net
60 yard punt, giving room for
the Dragons to work. Central
was able to drive the ball into
Dragon territory where the Dragons
stiffened and stopped the drive.
This time with field position
the Dragons went to work. Solid
runs by Seniors Cody
McMeans, Brian
Hall and Junior
Noel Moyes
moved the ball into Warrior
territory. McMeans (7 rushes
for 52 yards) broke into the
clear for a 17 yard touchdown
scamper. The extra point by
Senior Brett
Caldwell was good
and the Dragons lead 7 to 0.
This time it was three and out
for the Warriors, and when Senior
Jonathon
Abel broke free
to block the Warrior punt and
returned it 21 yards the game
rolled into high gear.
The Warriors with some time
left to work in the half began
again on offense, the Dragon
D was able to stop the drive
with under a minute remaining
in the half. With very little
time to work Senior Brian
Hall scrambled
right and connected with Taylor
Walker for a 42
yard gain along the right sideline.
On the last play of the half,
kicker Brett
Caldwell made the
39 yard field goal to give the
Dragons a 17 point advantage
at halftime.
The Dragons began the second
half with the ball after a short
kickoff gave Collierville good
field position. It took just
a few plays before Hall
hooked up with Taylor
Walker again on
a 20 yard timing play in the
end zone. Caldwell converted
the extra point and the Dragons
led 24 to 0.
The rest of the game was all
downhill for the Dragons with
Senior Quarterback Brian
Hall leading the
way. Brian finished with 8 carries
for 93 yards leading the Dragon
offense. Brian recorded touchdown
runs of 21 and 7 yards in the
second half. A 25 yard field
goal by Caldwell
completed the scoring.
The Dragons are again in action
this Friday September 3rd when
they entertain league foe Hamilton
at 7:30 pm at Osteen Field.
