The
Dragons entered the annual season
warm up at Germantown Field
with something to prove. The
Dragons had lost the first round
playoff game from last season
in a last second heartbreaker
to the Bolton Wildcats. In that
playoff game last year the Dragons
jumped well out in front of
Bolton before surrendering the
lead late in the 4th quarter.
The Dragons rallied in a late
drive for the go ahead touchdown
with less than a minute remaining.
However a big penalty and a
broken play gave Bolton the
win in the final seconds ending
the season for a strong group
of seniors.
Tonight
was to be different, where on
a neutral field the Dragons
would redeem themselves. Bolton
and Collierville played the
second match up of the night
with Bolton winning the toss
and getting the ball first.
Bolton mixed up the plays well
but was stopped short on third
down by a great play by the
D-line when Garrison Smith stopped
the play in the backfield for
a loss.
Collierville
moved the ball down the field
aided by an interference call
on a pass from quarterback Brian
Hall to Jonathon Able to set
a first down near midfield.
A deep pass down the right side
was caught by Taylor Walker
between two defenders for a
first down near the 10 yard
line. Two plays later it was
Bolton who forced the fumble
on a blitz on Brian Hall as
they recovered on the 11 yard
line. On the very first Bolton
play they caught the Collierville
defense out of position, and
the trap play went 89 yards
untouched for the first score.
The kick was wide right and
Bolton lead 6 to zero.
Collierville
with something more to prove
ran the ball deep into Wildcat
territory. Several key runs
by Hall, Cody McMeans, Noel
Moyes and Jordan Pedron made
the difference as the O line
worked Bolton over. The O line
this year is a talented group
of seniors anchored by tackles
Scott Eller, Nash Jackson, center
Garrison Smith, and guards Andrew
White and Jordan Whitten. Dragon
fortunes withered as Noel Moyes
coughed up the ball near the
sidelines on the sweep deep
in Bolton territory. The Dragon
D was forced again to go back
to work. Bolton mixed up the
plays well but 8 plays later
the sweep over the right side
went for 32 yards and a second
score. The kick failed and the
score grew to 12 to zero.
Collierville
went back to work again on offense.
However it was not to be a Dragon
night, when a bad exchange from
center resulted in the third
fumble of the night. Neither
team accomplished much in the
time remaining and the score
ended 12 to 0.
Collierville
opens there season a week early
this year in week zero with
a home game against cross state
foe Gallatin at 7:30 Friday
night. The game last season
was played on a rain delayed
and flooded field that was won
early the next morning by the
traveling Dragons in a hard
fought contest.
Perennial
class 3A powerhouse Gallatin
walks into Collierville with
something to prove and the exciting
match promises to yield an exciting
game.
