The
2005 Collierville Dragon football
team traveled to Arlington to engage
the Bartlett Panthers in the 2005
Jamboree Friday night and came away
victorious turning in a 7-0 performance
for their 12 minutes of work.
The
ball was placed on the Dragon
35 yard line and talented Sr QB
Jason
Smith led his offensive squad
out for the first series of downs.
Facing third and 5 after two successive
running plays, Smith
called option right and scampered
for 8 yards and a first down to
the 48 yd line. Mixing up the
pass and run and overcoming a
block in the back penalty Smith
continued marching his team
down the field. With second down
and 4 from the Panther 33 yd line,
Smith
lofted a beautiful pass to Sr
End Joseph
Crabtree who made a soft handed
catch down to the Panther 3 yd
line. Sr RB Noel
Moyes gained one yard on a
pitch left and on second down
Jr FB Zack Palmer followed Jr
C Joe
White up the middle on a 2
yard dive to put the Dragons ahead
by 6 points. Sr Lane
Maynard’s PAT kick on
Josh McMillon’s hold was
good and the Dragons led 7-0 at
the 7:58 mark in the quarter.
The
Bartlett offense took over on
the 35 yd line and using a misdirection
running attack and a key pass
play moved the ball down to the
Dragon 4 yd line. The Dragon D
stiffened and on second down the
middle of the line stood up the
running back and Jr NT Laine
Halfacre stripped the ball
away putting the Collierville
offense back in business with
first down and 10 in the shadow
of their own goal line. The first
play netted 17 yards on the hard
running of Sr RB Noel
Moyes. A quick out pass by
QB Smith
to Jr E Garrett
Bizzell netted a first down
for the Dragons at the 30 yd line.
Two plays later, Smith
called his own number on option
right and carried the ball down
to the Panther 33 yd line where
a penalty for a downfield block
in the back moved it back to the
43.
The
Dragons continued to move the
ball with successive running plays
by RB Noel
Moyes and FB Zach Palmer and
an end around by SR E Chris Collins.
The final play of the scrimmage
saw Jr RB Jason
Goins scamper for a quick
3 yds before the horn sounded.
The
Dragons appear to be an overall
faster team than last year’s
Region 8 Championship team and
with the depth and quickness that
was exhibited Friday night there
is no reason to believe the Dragons
can’t repeat as Region Champs
and march into the playoffs.
