Rain, rain and more rain! It was a wet start for the Collierville - Cordova game. The Dragons won the toss. The first quarter started with Connor Simmons back to receive and he followed through with a 20 yard return. First run of the game resulted in a first down made by Chase Presson. Quarterback Derek Pacileo on the keeper good for 3 yards. Jason Goins gets into the game with a first down which will be the last one of the drive. Out comes Andrew Richmond with a 40 yard punt. The Wolves first possession starts with a loss of yardage, thanks to the efforts of Eric Burrus, Tyler Hammers and Zach Jackson. Followed by another great tackle by junior Nick Reed. John Huffman and Jacob Hunter teamed up to hand the Wolves a loss of yards making it third and long. The Wolves were again stopped behind the line of scrimmage with a diving sack by Harrison Bizzell.
With the rain stopping during the first quarter, the second quarter started out dryer. After a fair catch by Garrett Bizzell, the Dragons picked up the pace. Jason Goins caught a 30 yard pass and with two broken tackles and a great block by Tyler Hammers, first down Dragons! Despite the effort by the Dragons, the drive was scoreless. The Wolves first possession started with a huge tackle by Nick Reed and Jacob Hunter on the punt return. The Dragons defense continued to punish the Wolves as Eric Smith delivers a loss of yardage. Followed by Conner Simmons stopping Cordova from getting into the end zone on the third down. As if not to be left out, after the Wolves score the first touchdown of the game, Michael Mancini blocked the point after attempt. With the end of the second quarter within sight, the Dragon offense was on the move. With a 45 yard pass completion from Derek Pacileo to Garrett Bizzell. Followed by a hand off to Bart Smith with a six yard gain. To end the first half with a 37 yard field goal by Jeremy Adair.
The third quarter was packed with excitement! It started with a touchback by Jeremy Adair. Then, an interception by Conner Simmons. It didn’t stop there, a fake punt to Bart Smith put the Dragons on the 11 yard line. Derek Pacileo completes an 10 yard touchdown pass to Garrett Bizzell. Extra point attempt by Jeremy Adair was good. Another great kick, and another touchback by Jeremy Adair! It was the defense’ turn to continue the momentum . The Wolves were tackled for a loss by Chris Bossert and Jacob Hunter. Throughout the drive, the Dragons defense kept the pressure on strong. Nick Reed finished the Wolves off with an interception.
The Dragons showed up to play in the third quarter, and followed up with grit and determination in the fourth quarter. Handoff from Derek Pacileo to Jason Goins resulted in an 8 yard gain. Which set up a first down by Bart Smith. Eric Smith also had his hands on the ball for another gain of about 5 yards. Derek Pacileo delivered another well thrown pass to a well covered Craig McComsey for a 30 yard completion. Then, Pacileo hit Garrett Bizzell for another touchdown! Jeremy Adair delivers another extra point. The Dragon defense was still on as Zach Jackson and Jacob Hunter helped Cordova loose yardage. Then Harrison Bizzell sacked the Wolves Quarterback. Our Dragon defense continued to keep the pressure on! The final possession for the Dragons started with a 15 yard run for Eric Smith, who broke three tackles and drug a few defenders. The Wolves had one last possession and that started with Zach Jackson hitting the quartereback just as the ball was released. Again, the dragon defense turned up the pressure. It was definite that the Dragons came to win tonight, with a score of 17-6 over Cordova.
